Everything about expansion two for Bungie’s “shared world shooter” Destiny makes sense to me. The changes to the competitive multiplayer portion of the game we reported on last week give PvP, for the first time, a proper endgame. The new upgrade system means any Legendary or Exotic weapon and armour piece can be made level 34 – without it losing progression. And the new Prison of Elders arena mode, revealed by Bungie today, is a cool twist on wave-based fighting and a lot of fun for three-player Fireteams. But, having played Prison of Elders, I just can’t shake the sense of disappointment about House of Wolves not adding a new Raid. Bungie has its reasons and I get them. I imagine Destiny’s Raids, which are designed for six players and require a level of communication and strategy beyond the rest of the game, are impenetrable to many. Without matchmaking, Raids require groups of players to manually form Fireteams. This just isn’t feasible for a lot of people.
Prison of Elders
One of the more interesting features to be added into Destiny 2 via its recently launched Warmind DLC is a new type of endgame activity called Escalation Protocols. In theory, Escalation Protocols function as a special sort of outdoor endgame activity in which players fight off increasingly powerful waves of Hive enemies. In the eyes of the community, one slight tweak could potentially fix those headaches: Escalation Protocol matchmaking.
Sadly, even the most skilled fireteams have been finding the later waves of the Escalation Protocols in which enemy power levels nearly crest while players are capped at an insurmountable challenge. Since a single instance of Hellas Basin can hold a maximum of nine players at once, those seeking to defeat an entire Escalation Protocol have turned to unorthodox strategies in order to gather three fireteams in the same instance and thus increase their chances of success.
Bungie has never explicitly said how many players are meant to undertake a single Escalation Protocol, but their presence in Hellas Basin suggests that the closer to nine players there are, the better.

It is based on the House of Judgment ‘s traditions for settling disputes between Fallen through trial by combat. The Archon Priest Aksor was previously a prisoner before later being retrieved by Taniks and having his soul restored by the House of Winter on Venus. The Prison of Elders is also known to contain members of the House of Wolves that were captured during the Reef Wars , though it also contains Hive , Vex and Cabal inmates who have attacked the Reef.
These prisoners are considered “trophies” by the Reef, kept cryogenically frozen for the Queen’s benefit. Though since Skolas ‘ rebellion, the Queen now wants the prison cleared out, and has recruited the Guardians to do it. A year after the Red War , the undead Fallen horde known as the Scorn orchestrated an incredibly massive breakout from the prison, following a lack of order after Mara Sov ‘s and Variks ‘ disappearances.
Destiny 2 matchmaking not finding anyone
House of Wolves will have a new cooperative end game activity focused on variety, replayability, and skill — a new battle Arena called The Prison of Elders. For some reason whenever I hear Arena, however, I get turned off. Not quite sure why, maybe just because of the shallow implementations of arena modes that have been done in the past.
Today’s update was covering “New Things To Do”. The April Update brings The Reef and Prison of Elders into Y2. arena, the L41 arena will consist of a fire team of three guardians and it will have matchmaking available.

Here’s how Destiny: House of Wolves’ new Prison of Elders mode works

You’re not meant to be able to blow through it. There’s no surefire recipe for success in Prison of Elders, but here’s a rundown of how it all works, and how you can best position yourself to survive:.
Prison of Elders but has a 50/50 chance to be Taken version. Earn gear up Level 42 – Challenge of the Elders (Does not have Matchmaking).
Jump to navigation. Most endgame activities in Destiny Nightfall Strikes, Raids, the Trials of Osiris PvP mode, the higher-level versions of Prison of Elders currently do not support matchmaking since they require the sort of coordination only an established group of players could attain. Even endgame activities that do support matchmaking, such as the Iron Banner PvP event, the lowest-difficulty tier of Prison of Elders, and Heroic Strikes, are so difficult to complete that throwing yourself to the mercy of the matchmaking system is a gamble where the odds are definitely not in your favor.
If there was more endgame content for solo-minded Destiny players to sink their teeth into, I doubt the game would be getting as much of a bad rap as it does now. A typical Prison of Elders match is made up of five rounds with each round awarding a small bit of faction reputation upon completion. I think a fair compromise would be to offer minor rewards for each round completed that went beyond a small bump in reputation; maybe a cache of Glimmer or some crafting materials or even the chance at a rare engram.
Trying to string players along with the promise of a big reward at the end can be equal parts tempting and frustrating but offering smaller prizes along the way can help smooth over any aggravation that crops up from an unsuccessful attempt. Finishing a round of Crucible PvP or a cooperative Strike in Destiny currently awards faction reputation and marks used to buy faction gear.
Destiny – New Prison of Elders Details: Scorch Cannon, Critical Objectives, Modifiers
Today, Bungie took to Twitch and other sources around the interwebs to showcase the new endgame activity for Destiny, the Prison of Elders. The new mode allows for a few ways to play in terms of difficulty. During the livestream, a display of the new location, The Reef, gave us a look at four ways to get down and dirty with the activity all staged for different levels of challenge. It was expressed that the base version is a level 28 random activity in the Prison of Elders that allows matchmaking and can be played as many times as desired for constant reward.

It has been quite some time since I last wrote about Destiny. Today I wanted to discuss some of its end game content. Specifically, why Trials of Osiris is brilliant and what unexpected effects it has had on the community. Destiny has taken a lot of flack recently because of the few ways to gain the highest-level gear. The best way is the Raid Challenge modes, where players do a particularly difficult boss encounter a certain way to be rewarded with extra max level loot.
The difficulty with having the end game content being against computers is that people can out smart them. There are endless strategy guides and how-tos, which walk the players through the entire raid. This makes it considerably easier to finish when they know exactly what is going to happen and when it is going to happen. Then there is Trials of Osiris.
Prison of Elders is a semi-random horde mode that’s too tough for Bungie
As Destiny prepares to expand again with the House of Wolves DLC later this month, Bungie has been busy slowly teasing the fan base with new information about the content that’s included. While many players were surprised and even a bit disappointed to learn that the expansion wouldn’t contain a new Raid , there’s a number of new features which should help fill that void.
We’re now learning this week that the upcoming Destiny expansion holds even more content, introducing a battle arena called the Prison of Elders which is also bringing a long requested feature with it to the game. In a new teaser video, fans get their first look at the Prison of Elders battle arena which adds a cooperative Horde style mode to Destiny.
It easy to create a maze of elders matchmaking game updates or test assassin, whole fireteam can barely experience – want to destiny has a prison of iron.
Yet lone wolf players still find it a struggle to access much of the high level content, simply because very little of it can be played alone, and the game purposely limits matchmaking options. Bungie seems firm on this point, and with only a few weeks until the launch of The Taken King , there has been no announcement to the contrary. Of all the Destiny debates to persist through Year 1, none is as polarizing as issues of matchmaking.
Both sides make strong arguments of support either way. Opposition is usually framed by the fact that some content, notably Temple of Osiris and raids , would be brutally difficult to play in squads with no communication. Lone wolf players still find it a struggle to access much of the high level content, simply because very little of it can be played alone. While LFG sites offer options for those who are feeling lonely, they certainly do not represent a panacea solution without problems.
As a gamer, I play a lot. Until the emergence of Destiny a year ago, the word casual seldom had negative connotations in gaming circles. Imagine being scolded for this in a public forum…the gaming equivalent of being dressed down for not studying for a test.
